RBI Platinum Jubilee stamp released
NEW DELHI: The President, Ms. Pratibha Patil on Saturday released a stamp commemorating the Platinum Jubilee of the Reserve Bank.
The five-rupee stamp depicts the iconic New Delhi offices of the apex bank, which has the statues of the mythological Yaksha and Yakshini, designed by famous sculptor Ramkinkar Baij.
It was released before a select gathering which included Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Mr. Gurudas Kamat and Minister of State for Banking and Insurance Mr. Namo Narain Meena.
Former RBI governors Dr C Rangarajan, Mr. Bimal Jalan and Mr. YV Reddy were also present.
The RBI started functioning on April 1, 1935, in the aftermath of the Great Depression of 1930s. Today, when it is celebrating its 75 years, global financial crisis is on a way out.
The final Platinum Jubilee function would be organised in Mumbai and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who also served as the RBI top brass, is expected to be there. - PTI (The Hindu - Business Line)
