La USPS s-a terminat cu cadouri oferite demnitarilor

Senatorul american, John McCain, s-a arătat revoltat după ce în urmă cu ceva timp a primit de la administrația poștală americană - USPS (The United States Postal Service) - o mapă din 2009 timbrele emise în cursul acestui an. Demnitarul american consideră că este vorba de un gest "iresponsabil". Șefii poștei americane au încercat să clarifice situația și directorul general, John Potter, a declarat că senatorul McCain nu are nici o vină în toată afacerea asta, iar și aceste cadouri au fost trimise membrilor Congresului. USPS are un deficit de șapte miliarde dolari și are în vedere desfințarea a 170 oficii poștale. "Până la serviciul poștal nu se redresează,îi cer să se abțină de la cheltuieli inutile, cum ar fi aceste cadouri oferite membrilor Congresului" - a insistat McCain. Ca răspuns USPS, prin vocea vicepreședintelui administrației, Marie Therese Dominguez, a anunțat oprirea distribuire protocoalelor respective.
Tot scandalul a izbucnit după ce senatorul a posta pe pagina sa de Twiter imaginea mapei primit cu titlu de protocol. Decizia USPS a fost salutată de senator.

USPS: No free stamp folios for Congress
Senator John McCain doesn’t know why the fiscally-strapped United States Postal Service sent him a folio of 2009 commemorative stamps, but he thinks the expenditure is "irresponsible". In a December 16 letter to USPS Postmaster General John Potter, McCain said the USPS has no business sending freebies to selected members of Congress while the organization has a $7 billion deficit and wants to close 170 post offices. "Until the Postal Service no longer owes American taxpayers billions of dollars, I request that you refrain from spending limited Postal Service resources on unnecessary items such as engraved albums showcasing commemoratives (sic) stamps for members of Congress and instead focus on moving the Postal Service to fiscal solvency". USPS’ response? They planned to end the program all along, said Marie Therese Dominguez, vice president of government relations and public policy, in a December 17 letter to the senator. "Our fiscal reality precludes the continuation of this program, which was intended to highlight the beautiful commemorative stamps issued by the Postal Service each year".
McCain announced the resolution on his Twitter account, SenJohnMcCain, and said he applauds the USPS’ decision. (FederalTimes.com)
