China 2009 World Stamp Exhibition will be held in the new hall of Luoyang Museum. The hall is located on the middle axial line of Luoyang City, with the picturesque Luopu Park to its north and the Sui-Tang Site Botanical Garden on its south, and with the attractive environment and convenient traffic. The total investment is about 350 million Yuan. It occupies an area of 300 mou, with building area of 42,000 m2, in the full frame structure. Its main body has two floors and certain part has three floors. The outdoor auxiliary works include the pipeline networks, roads and landscaping etc. It is a modern museum with advanced design concept and complete functions and facilities. The new hall of Luoyang Museum all round expresses the long history and profound culture of Luoyang which is the 13 dynasties’ capital. The following five points are highlighted in the design of this hall:?
Culture of capital. Total 13 dynasties founded their capitals in Luoyang. It is the historic and cultural famous city with the earliest capital founding, the most dynasties founding capitals here and the longest time of capital founding. This hall roof was divided into 13 parts according to the functions, symbolizing the 13 dynasties founding capital in Luoyang. In the meantime, the continuous roof images reproduce the grandness of Luoyang as the capital in the history.
Culture of relics. Damaged by wars and man in the history, a large number of cultural relics in Luoyang were asleep underground. Later they were unearthed in the archaeological excavations. The culture of relics is an important characteristic of Luoyang. The hall makes use of the irregular light holes in the walls and roof to indicate this theme.?
Heluo culture. Heluo culture is the source of the culture of Chinese nation. He Tu Luo Shu is the representative of Heluo culture, regarded as the highest achievement of the ideology of Chinese ancestors. This hall abstractly expresses the image of He Tu Luo Shu by means of the topological combinations of the roof. To the south of the museum, the landscaping square is built with the theme of “He Tu Luo Shu”.
Garden culture. Besides the splendid achievements of the city, Luoyang Garden is also very unique in the garden arts in the ancient China. With regard to the space layout, the new hall fully digests the technique of garden layout, building the indoor gardens and the light dooryards with different locations and characteristics and in different sizes, along the exhibitions, thus ensuring the close contact between people and nature during the visit.?
Geographic location. The appearance of the auxiliary building adopts the landscape technique to coordinate the relation between the main body and the foil, vividly embodying the geographic features of the location of Luoyang, that is, in front of Mang Mountain and face to Yique in the south.
The whole effect is that the four side elevations are adducted and the building appearance is like a big tripod (ding), very grand. Thus it is named “Ding Li Tian Xia”; The periphery of the architecture is provided with the ramps connecting to the roof, thus forming the open public space; the side front is the celestial pivot where the sightseeing elevator is installed; the plane layout looks like the Chinese character “国”, and the celestial pivot is just the point in this character. This fully indicates the characteristics of Chinese nation and the rich history and culture of Luoyang.?
This hall is composed of the main building and the auxiliary building, which has second floors and three floors respectively. 1F of the main building is in the building area of 11,000m2, for the sales booths; the second floor is in the building area of 9,000m2, for the philatelic exhibition, where 600 sales booths can be set up. The auxiliary building is for the use of offices of chairmen and secretaries general of the FIP and FIAP, the consultants of the FIP, and the evaluation committee and the collection committee. There are convenience stores, Chinese and western restaurants and coffee & leisure area, which will provide the convenient services for you.
