BUCHAREST, June 23 (KUNA) -- Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Communications Abdulaziz Al-Osaimi Monday said Kuwait is seeking to benefit from Romania's expertise in the field of postal service and communications.
The undersecretary's remarks to KUNA came during his visit here to attend the Romanian Philatelic Federation EFIRO 2008, the international conference and exhibition which deals with the latest in the field.
He said Kuwaiti-Romanian ties are strong and cooperation is constant, adding there was boom in all areas of cooperation and coordination particularly after the visit by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah in September 2006.
The undersecretary also remarked the strength of political relations between the two nations was reflected during a visit in mid May by the Romanian President to Kuwait upon invitation of the Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The introduction of three Kuwaiti-Romanian stamps during the conference recently was another proof of strong relations and marked the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The official said he and his counterpart, Kostantin Tiodosko, discussed further cooperation and coordination in the field of communications.
Aspects of cooperation discussed included exchange of visits of experts, exchange of data, agreements to regulate technical and technological cooperation between the two countries, and means of benefiting from Romania's expertise to develop the Kuwaiti ministry's performance and services.
The undersecretary stressed the Romanian party had expressed greatest regard for relations with Kuwait, and particularly recalled with regard that Kuwait was the first Gulf country to establish diplomatic relations with Romania in 1963.
Postal stamps depict Kuwait-Romania ties
BUCHAREST: State-owned Romania Radio shed light on the Kuwaiti participation in the Romanian Philatelic Federation EFIRO 2008, the first World Stamp Exhibition, that was opened on Friday in Bucharest. In a lengthy interview the radio conducted with the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Romania Yagoub Yousef Al-Atigi, he hailed the phenomenal Kuwaiti-Romanian bilateral relations at all levels and Kuwait's participation in the exhibition to boost bilateral relations binding the two countries.
Kuwait's participation in the event coincided with the 45th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties with Romania, the radio quote the Kuwaiti ambassador as saying. He said Kuwaiti-Romanian ties have greatly improved, namely after a visit by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to Romania on September 15, 2006 when he opened the Kuwaiti embassy headquarters in Bucharest, a step that tangibly enhanced these relations.
He said the Kuwaiti diplomatic mission has implemented policies and guidelines of the foreign ministry with regards to boosting the ties, particularly after a visit by Romanian President Traian Basescu to Kuwait last May, responding to an invitation by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Three Kuwaiti-Romanian joint postal stamps are being issued during the event to depict the deep-rooted bilateral relations. (KUNA)
