New issues: China - "Centenary of the Birth of Comrade Song Renqiong"

On January 8, 2010, China National Philatelic Corporation issued a one-piece set of first-day cover, carrying a two-piece set of Commemorative stamps, "Centenary of the Birth of Comrade Song Renqiong", with a combined face value of 2.40yuan. The name of the stamp is "Song Renqiong during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression" and "Song Renqiong in Reform and Opening-Up".

Song Renqiong (Chinese: 宋任穷 or 宋韵琴; 1909-January 8, 2005) was a general in the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Song was born in Liuyang, Hunan Province.
During the Sino-Japanese War, he was the vice director of political department of 129 Division. Toward the end of the Chinese Civil War, he was the vice political commissar of the Northeast Field Army. After the establishment of the PRC in 1949, he was the secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC)'s committee in Yunnan Province, vice secretary of Southwest bureau of CPC, vice secretary-general of CPC central committee, minister of No. 2, NO. 3 and No. 7 Mechanical Industry Department, and No. 1 secretary of Northeast Bureau of CPC. He was the vice chairman of 4th and 5th National Political Consultative Conference. He was an alternative member of Politburo of 8th CPC central committee, a secretary of central secretariat of 11th CPC central committee, and a politburo member of 12th. He was the vice-chairman of the PRC's Central Advisory Committee. He died aged 96 in Beijing, following an illness. Though Song Renqiong died before Zhao Ziyang, he requested that his floral wreath and elegiac coupler appeared in Zhao's funeral. He was the honorary chairman of the Chinese Volleyball Association.
